As
a parent of a student about to leave for college, you may have anxieties
about what your student will face. The truth is, your concerns are not
completely unfounded. Spiritual challenges are unavoidable in today's world, and nowhere is this truth more obvious than on our college campuses. Students are exposed to a liberal world view and new ideas, many of which are entirely humanistic. Many students fall prey to peer-pressure, loneliness, fear, and temptation. Everything that you have taught them will be challenged when they make the transition to an independent life on the university campus. Is your student ready for the responsibility? The statistics are not encouraging. According to Chris Leland, Ph.D., at the Focus on the Family Institute, “over 75 percent of Christian students will leave college with their faith either absent or severely damaged. Over 80 percent of college professors report themselves as either liberal or very liberal. Together with the other statistics about the impact this culture is having on a student's Christian worldview, the odds seem overwhelming.”
Even if these students later return to their faith in Christ, many
important decisions are typically made during the college experience,
including career choices and mate choices. We’re happy to say that there
is good news:
Christian Student Fellowship (CSF) is a non-profit organization that
ministers to college students like yours. We have full time
ministries on four campuses in the state of Nebraska: University of
Nebraska - Lincoln, University of Nebraska - Kearney, University of
Nebraska - Omaha, and Northeast Community College in Norfolk. As CSF offers opportunities for mission work to your child, you also are invited to join the teams traveling in short term mission trips. The Artz's (pictured below) participated in the 2006 Mexico Mission Trip as a family: parents, two sons and daughters-in-law and their daughter and her husband. All three of their children have been actively involved in CSF through their college years. The Arnold family was represented by three generations on one trip to Mexico. Several other trips included one parents serving as a trip sponsor and experiencing first hand the life changing events that take place on the mission field. You are welcome at any time to join the large group gatherings for powerful times of praise and worship followed by Biblical teaching and small group discussions. Feel free to call or email the campus ministry coordinator closest to your son or daughter if you would like to join us for any CSF activities. CSF also offers healthy social activities, leadership conferences, student retreats, National Missionary Convention trips, local community service projects, ministry trip to state prisons, and much more for your student. We are a community within a community, and we work hard to help your child grow in his/her knowledge of God while building lifetime relationships. For the students who have questions and are seeking meaningful answers to life on campus - or just in general - we are available to help in any way we can. Thank you for your interest and please let us know how we may serve you or your children on the college campus.
